Petaluma

I am not much of an autumn person. Partly because in my neck of the woods, there's summer, winter, and maybe just a few days in between that could be considered fall.

This year was different. Autumn seemed to stretch all the way from mid-September to early November. I felt like it was actually a real season!

It was a windy day when I took these photos. I love to watch how the wind moves across the grass in ripples and waves. But it was too windy to have my hair down for very long.

I bought the Petaluma skirt on sale and have found it very difficult to style. I think looking at these photos, I'd opt for a pump with a high heel instead of the flat booties.

Outfit details:
Jacket: thrifted
Sweater: RW&Co, very old
Skirt: Anthropologie, Petaluma skirt
Shoes: Nine West, old (similar)
Bag: Burberry, Crossbody bag from last season (this season's version in house check)
Do you like fall? Do you have a favourite season?

  1. I love windy days too! We get the Santa Ana winds down here that are just incredible.
My favorite season is spring. I get so happy in April as the days start getting longer and warmer. I hate hate hate winter. LOL Good thing I live in Los Angles where winter is pretty short and it never snows and there is always a week or two in January when it feels like summer.

    1. My favourite season is summer. Spring is another non-season for us. We seem to have winter, a few days of melting and then full-on summer.

  2. I am so glad that you purchased that skirt! It is amazing on you! I think the brown jacket are perfectly styled with it. And the grass is so pretty. I love these pictures! I love fall and winter... In California. It never gets very cold and I like to layer. Drink hotncocoa. Decorate for Christmas! It is way too hot here in the summer!

    1. Thanks, Jenni!

We just spent some time in Bishop and I think I could definitely get used to fall and winter in California.

  4. I woke up this morning to a dusting of snow. I was not pleased. We left Michigan for the south partly because we were done with winter. Savannah's "winter" weather suited us perfectly. Nashville's? Not so much. I'm a little bitter. Kyle made me a piping hot cup of coffee, covered me with a blanket, and essentially told me to get over it. And that we have a long winter ahead. lol

I love the air of fall, too. The crackling leaves, the howling air, the bright sun and cool breeze... Now that winter is apparently setting in, I guess I'll have to put away my flats and heels and don my boots everyday instead. Boo. I love my boots. I just don't like weather that forces me to wear them on an everyday basis.

I like your styling of this skirt. It's unexpected and has a relaxed autumn vibe. It has a touch of the rustic romance that Jenni does so well. It makes the skirt quite casual, too, which is nice. More casual means more wearable! I can understand why the skirt might be tricky to style. If you want to do a slouchy, flat boot, maybe try to keep your top and jacket shorter? It might be cute with these same boots but with a cropped jacket and tucked in shirt for a different play on proportions. You could layer on an infinity scarf, too.

I'm sure I'll be having the same struggle styling my skirts as we move into winter. In Savannah, I could wear skirts and bare legs most of the year. I also wore flats year round. Here, I'll have to figure out how to wear boots and tights without getting sick of them in a week.

    1. Is it common to get snow in Nashville? I don't mind little dustings of snow. I get tired of brutally cold wind and temps though. I think the only thing that makes our long winters bearable is how much I love skiing. I have no idea what people here who don't have some kind of winter activity do to survive.

Thanks for the styling suggestions. I like the idea of a cropped jacket.

  5. I looove fall, and we actually get a decent fall here in Toronto, most of October and November are usually fall-like. I agree that booties and the midi skirt are difficult, but I think you're pulling them off. Love your dog in the photos too. :)

    1. Yes, I think out East (yes, that's what Calgarians say about Ontario), you get a better autumn and more defined seasons. Glad to hear you think my fashion risk worked out.
